mandates of masks

As the spread of the coronavirus worsens, as well the cacophony of information about the contraction and symptoms, face coverings are becoming more and more common place throughout cities and countries.  Reflective and Reactive will be a newly enacted “Mask Mandate” that would require people to wear masks when you are visiting public places such as grocery stores, pharmacies and the like.

Since its introduction in the the late 1800’s,  These surgical face masks have had a number of labels and preconceived antedotes and notions along with them. We all got our bottoms popped (well my age group anyway) upon birth. But if you witnessed someone in a public forum, they would probably have been deemed, a germaphobe, an unhealthy person, even a serial killer could be your first thought When you saw a person in a surgical mask and they are not in an operating room. (cant forget Halloween hhah)

But not anymore, those labels will be foder for the fire, as the unmasked may become the subject of finger points and condemning accusations. Often, seen as a healthy person’s unnecessary precaution, today without a facemask could be a physical and literal representation of a person that doesn’t “give a damn”

Which could fuel unnecessary fires and cause dessention in the ranks of our humanity, which is already teeter tottering on the brink due to a desensitized social media and a consistently scoured history.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions -John Ray 1670

You say “Mandate” I say “Order”,  yes its an official order, just to be plain. You will be told, that you “cannot” enter particular public establishments without a face covering. You may be banned from public gatherings, public displays of affection, public period. hmmm

It’s a simple precautionary measure to assist the slowing the spread of this virus while continuing your everyday life. Sweeping indiscriminately across the globe it could be passed from a cough, sneeze, touch, and the symptoms could range from upper respiratory, fever, headaches and some cases even death.

So what to do. Do you stay locked up in your home until the calvary of real information comes galloping at your door, to say “hey partner, all clear you can come on out!”  or do you slap on a damn mask and go about your day.

Duh, you slap on a mask and go about your day!

A stress test is happening to our world. I ask Will masks be the new way of being?, the visual dicernment? Will we inadvertantly let rules and regulations into our homes, that bind our humanity, with the “we mean you no harm” pretty colors and fancy “tiktok” jingles, with hands raised and with a large band of precautionary tape ready to bind your minds and everyday existence with it.

We have to be cautious, we have to protect our families, but to what end?

War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.

-George Orwell, 1984

Are we being “protected” or “studied”?

The infamous “War of the Words” not the Tom cruise version. But the real fake version that put a fear in radio listeners in the late 1930s.  Hearing sounds of destruction, phasers, screams, horrible descriptions. Fascinations and imaginations ran the psych of those listening and a frenzy from New York, New jersey people put towels across their faces to protect themselves from harmful extraterrestrial gases and radiation

Sound familiar?

The difference, is they didn’t have the wealth of information, twitter, google hell they didn’t have the internet. We know better because we get better information. Right?

One would ask, are we in one large petri dish, seeing how far our limits can go, before we say “uncle” and shakenly mark an x and allow full control of the government in our everyday lives, touting “Everything is back to normal folks”

Its no matter, I would rather be safe than sorry. No rebellion here, only “Caution” the more we are scared, the more control they have, and the more we will allow.

and strapped with a trumpet shouting “precautionary measures” , we will allow someone to drive and take the wheel altogether, so that our new normal is really, whatever has been designed for us.

A Dance Party: An ode to Resilience

The resilience of our humanity during tough times is awe-inspriring. The things we do when we are given lemons, oh how sweet we make the lemonade

I tuned in this passed Sunday , and saw DJ-D-Nice lead a virtual dance party on Instagram and it was more than nice!! Over 160K people joined including myself. It was called “Homeschool at the club” and everyone seemed to chime in, chit chat and connect to the vibe that DJ D-Nice was producing.

For some he set a bit of a precedent. flinging open a door of togetherness and encouragement. In the Social Media world, quarantine is just another for ingenuity and if anything else, it also means more time. More time to create, relate, connect, showcase and just make the bad news, bearable.

People are skating, singing, DJ-ing, showing talents, explaining woos, holding talks, having forums, praying and preaching. writing and the like.

It’s also caused many to reach out to family and friends who they haven’t spoken to in years. Heck, I have been tempted to take this time to reach out to people who I haven’t talked to in days, months or even years just to say….Hey. but, then I remember the reason we don’t speak in the first place and so…. with a shrugged shoulder, I digress. ha

Isn’t this the ultimate goal of Social Media anyway?

Not to bully, and show boobies, but to encourage and motivate, not to fight and be just plain messy, but to remain social and find that kindred spirit in someone hundreds of miles away.

Wow, its been a minute, but I hope you have been well. Did you see the DJ D-Nice on Instagram? Hope so…

See you don’t have to berate, and show arguments and fighting for views. You don’t have to drag a person’s name, or promote divisiveness.

You can have a virtual dance party and everyone will join and you will get just as many ratings but this time it will come with respect.

I bow to you DJ D-Nice, that was the classiest.

Many Blessings

The Humanity of Crisis

The virus is sweeping the globe and there are changes that will be made to our everyday life. If you think your way of being is not going to be forever changed, then pay attention to the small changes we as an American society have made over the years in light of mass shooting, terrorism albeit defined as “precautionary” measures, we have still altered our lives to fit the mold of each new existence, based on the architect in our dystopia.

Our very existence is dictated by an overwhelming need to “BE”. To understand who we are, why we are and have this purposeful existence. This is clouded, by the humanity of this world or dare I say the world for which we live. We have defined each other by our race, by our gender, by our religion and maintain divisions amongst each other, with the guise of strengthening the core.

Yet now, a virus sweeps through our states, countries, cities and towns. It’s like a thief in the night, stealing mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, grandparents and cousins. It does not discriminate; it does not see the hue of your skin nor does it see the class for which you were born in.  Secretly, as it creeps into our existence its also creeping into our humanity. Its invading the core of we, the one that thing that is the same but different and that when in trouble, no matter the hand it would reach.

I am paying attention to Social Media and of course in a probable hope at keeping a “norm” alive, there is still those that want to divide.  Speaking in “Us” and “Them” but when it comes to talking or posting about the corona virus, or pandemics it’s a resounding “WE”

But, there is money in the “The Divide” not just in products, services and clothing. But there is money in the hate. Issues with race, have a great and powerful influence on how we live today and how money behaves, from education, affecting an income, to getting resources needed. From a business standpoint “The Divide” is necessary.

From Drive by shootings, to mass shootings, to police shootings. We have become a society of bad then worse than good and better. We are constantly put to the test as humans, but still find areas to distance ourselves. We  blame it on a section of a neighborhood, the class of people, the area for which they live. But there is always wiggle room of disconnection in this most socially media connected world.

This virus has many of us dialing back the need for some of the frivolous things we thought and did on a day- to- day basis. There is more concern about the” what matters ” most. We have developed and withstood so many tests in our personal lives and as human beings.  We evolved from hunting and gathering to cell phones and uber eats.

We all dream, we all have ideas, we can all hope, and Love. We all tell stories and laugh at the good times and wish we could go back to a place when the bad didn’t stalk our minds so much. We change our pace with our surroundings and keep it with the atmosphere of today. Each fighting to be different, but ultimately residing to the fact that we are all the same.

When our humanity is threatened, we develop, we embrace, and we begin a new life with the new “precautionary” measure. But I would hope that we all move as the virus did. Without Discrimination, without hate, with understanding and with the echoing of those before.

Because our real fear is that we will not evolve, if we do not learn at this moment. We may not continue our ascent to a significance of this planet, but a byproduct that was wiped clean.
